Why do I have a blog? What the heck!? Anyway I'm sitting in a starbucks (pretty cliche huh?) and I just finished reading my wife's and my sister's blogs and I get inspired. I feel moved and well, here we are, I have a blog. What will I use this for? How often will I use it? These are things I'm not worried about. I think the reason why I decided to do this is that I feel like I have little outlet these days for moments.....moments of reflection.......moments where God goes WHAM!!!!! and I then get to share it. I used to have a really sick job where I had moments all the time. I miss that, alot. I wonder if this blog will turn into yet another item in a great pile of things that I began and then never finished. Anyone else have a pile? I mean diets, journals, bible reading plans, gym memberships, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, college majors etc. are all part of these things that I have begun and have only fizzled out. I wonder if this will be more of the same? Hopefully, (this next statement assumes that someone will read this haha) however long it lasts it will put a smile on your face and heck we may even learn something together. So here it is. my blog.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
My time with God has become really erratic lately and that bothers me. I find myself with a hunger and thirst that cant even be satisfied with the absurd amounts of carbohydrates and melted cheese I eat these days (mostly tortillas and cheese in case you were wondering...oh and dough with cheese and meat aka pizza too!). Anywhooo I think I will be posting some things that I'm learning from my time with my Maker. I understand if that doesn't quite appeal to you but this isn't really for you I think this is something I need. So....what did I learn today? I'm gonna be reading a chapter or 2 daily from some of Paul's letters for the next week or so (crazy dude who killed Christians and then became a man who wrote most of the new testament in the Bible, needless to say, God changed his heart).
WHO AM I REALLY?
I like people. I like people alot. I have a lot of people who I love a ton and think about all the time though we don't talk much. Alot of people think I'm a good person. I say that because they've told me. This sticks out to me because I'm really not. Deep down. If you knew the real me you would think the same thing that I know. I am a bad MO FO. Not in the cool "Shaft" action hero way. More in the creepy neighbor across the street for 15 years had 14 bodies in his basement sort of way (not literal bodies....metaphoric ones) This brings me to the previously mentioned Maker. He knows me. Like really knows me and all those bodies (metaphoric again). He's been there when I've done some of the most....you get the point. He KNOWS ME! and yet He loves me (and likes me). This is beyond me......................................I feel horrible about how things that I say, feel, and do sometimes and he still loves me (and likes me).
what HE taught me today
Read a chapter earlier in Galatians that said "The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." (It's crazy how it says that's ALL THAT COUNTS. Religions always try to make other stuff count too like do this and not that or don't do this and DO that) later it said, "serve one another in love" and "love your neighbor as yourself". Man these are crazy verses. If you hadn't guessed by now I'm a Christian (I just came out officially on this blog....lol....you're right Gabe it is a little anticlimatic). By Christian I mean I talk to, spend time with, and do things with, Jesus. Back to the point.....man I want to be a man who loves. A man who loves others (friends, family, wife, chihuahua, strangers) serves others, as much as I love myself. Now this whole love myself thingy is weird because I don't know that I really love myself but then I realize how much stuff I do in my life that puts myself first. And then I realize most of my tasks day to day are for me and even some of the ones I do for others are more about me than they are others.....I said earlier I'm a bad person remember.
Moral of the story
God help me to be a man who lets others have the front seat instead of calling "shotgun" all the time in this car called "LIFE".
